Kids Corner

Class of 2017

Here is your forum.

Ok, this is the page we decided we would add in a previous class meeting. On this page you can communicate politely and positively with your class mates. It would be a wonderful place to let us know any interesting hobbies you do and achievements that you have earned. Ask you friends some interesting questions? Help them understand what’s going on. Pay someone a compliment and give them some great feedback. I found some great tips by some third grade children in California, hear what they have to say.

      Hello Lakeisha,
Take each word from your list and make up a title. for example “blowfly” as a song title it could be ….. ‘I’ve got the blowfly blues” or as a book it could be Which blowfly is that? Remember they are titles so what special punctuation should you include. As you have fifteen words I should read fifteen creative titles. How will I know it is a song or a book title? what could you do? I hope that clarifies you query. Enjoy the activity. Warm wishes Ellen

My dad wrote a letter for me that said I love you in my spelling book. It’s funny that you saw it and wrote back. It made me laugh. I told my mum and dad and they laughed.

      Hello Lakeisha,
If you and your family are reading my comments then my job is done. That’s precisely what should happen and I’m glad you enjoy the process too. When children take my feedback seriously then they start to make changes. I enjoy marking your work as you put effort into it. What part of the contract is your favourite? Are there any activities that you would like to see?

      Hello Kate,
Really nice to hear you are having a great time so far. Yes Christmas is getting closer by the minute. Peter and I finally put our tree up so now I can begin to get into the spirit. I’ve been very busy getting the house clean and ready for guests. Tomorrow I have to do some baking I probably won’t make the usual big assortment of biscuits because I’ll run out of time so I’ll do with a few varieties. Even though biscuits are my favourite vegetables I do need to cut down on too much sugar!
I’ve checked the award results and we didn’t win although I’d be interested to see where we came. I’ll need to do some research.
How did you go with all that heat? There’s more coming stay cool and enjoy your Christamas celebrations.

      Greetings Tia,
You have got some interesting questions although I am puzzled by this comment. As you know when you are communicating online you should always know the person you are connecting with, so no I would never friend someone I do not know. I think looking at puppies and kittens is delightful they are always adorable, but then they grow into dogs and cats and that is another matter. I particularly like schnitzel and red cabbage. I don’t know the time of my birth I can tell time great now but way back a hundred years ago I was still learning. I have lost all my baby teeth and had two adult teeth taken out for bands and of course I had my wisdom teeth removed. I can’t remember when I lost my first tooth but I know it worried me terribly because I thought I’d swallow it when I was eating an apple and then it would bit a hole in my tummy. Children have such fantastic imaginations. I didn’t swallow it in the end, phew.

I must be really tired Tia because I first read my name then I checked it was for Ella oh well I had written all this so you may as well read it!

    Hi everyone,
I hope you finish your report draft in time because if you don’t you will not have a very good report. I finished mine on today but I have a lot of editing to do. How many pages have you done? I’ve done five pages and one sentence. I made sure that mine is very detailed and I also started t edit. I hope that I can type quick enough. I have been writing comments like this which will help me with typing, I also have been doing typing games. It is also my first thing beside spelling in pen. I showed my mum my spelling and she said your writing is neat in pen!

I am very excited because Christmas is getting closer and closer. On Christmas all of my relatives come to our house for lunch and we all have lots of fun. last year everyone had lots of fun and we made delishous food. What do you do on Christmas? Did you enjoy it last year.

I do not want this year to end because I liked all the fun things we did like reading the series of events. I wonder if it is going to be as fun as this year!

How disappointing and annoying that you had difficulty getting back on Storybird. You did change your password and added three numbers no space. Did you remember that? I haven’t set a deadline for your story I thought the main thing was for you to become familiar with the program. Next week we’ll work with our CAT partners and you can create a joint story. If you decide to try again I hope you can access it.

If you look closely Rocky is now almost completely bald. It’s either from stress or because he’s been patted too much! Sorry to miss another special day, that was an unfortunate coincidence. I hope you remembered to ask Ms Tara to take photos. I do hope things go well today though some of the class are choosing to not keep our criteria indeed! I worked very hard today and completed all my required work so I might try to put up another post, as I have a little time.

    Hi Ellen,
I was wondering how you come up with great ideas like spelling contracts you have a organised way of doing those things. Is it fun deciding about what activities we should do? I know that I would like coming up with ideas that a whole class enjoys. I like word snake the best because you can be creative and that was the first activity I ever did and I was thrilled that you wanted to make our work colourful because I love colour. I like spelling contracts lots and I am happy we are doing them. I am going to keep commenting.

      Good evening Kate,
I take it you must have just done some of your spelling contract. I do like the spelling contracts although they do take a long time to mark, but you people put so much effort into them so I don’t mind. I think that if there are a lot of skills you can work at in the same activity work is much more fun. When you look back at how magnificent your presentations have become you realise I made you work hard for a reason.Serious learners like yourself adore contracts but others may just see them as work to do for me. But you and I know that the work is for yourself and you get stronger on many levels. Every now and then it’s okay to have those activity sheets but I wouldn’t want spelling to become that each week would you?
Anyway if I have to mark those books they may as well be creative and entertaining, otherwise I’d fall asleep! So which menu did you choose or will you take a new one each week?
      Happy Spelling

        Hello Ellen,
I really put effort into my work.It looks like you put effort into marking.I have just finished my spelling contract and I hope it is good. I do like the activities sheet but I wouldn’t want to do that every week because you can make it more creative. I wouldn’t want you to fall asleep. I chose menu 1 because I really liked word snake but it would be nice to change sometimes. Have you ever fallen asleep? Do you think you will? Have you ever tried doing a spelling contract and would do you ever try? I think it would be neat because you are very neat.

          G’day Kate,
Your typing skills must be getting a real workout. I know you put lots of effort into you work Kate if your page could talk it would say ” You should see the concentration on my owner’s face as she’s writing and thinking of what to do. I appreciate the way she tickles my pages with her neat writing and the gentle colouring she does. Oh how she looks after me!” But of course books don’t really talk …or do they. Hey that just gave me a great idea for a writing task, once our team letters are out of the way. Thank you Kate you are an inspiration.

Oh yes of course I fall asleep, each night I try to, but someone keeps snoring! Oh you mean during marking, I have come very close many times. Then it takes a long time to mark all the books because I’m so tired. You know how difficult it is to concentrate when you are tired.

I do enjoy the blog and I love the way the comments are really improving.I’d like more time with computing and Blogging to do other things but I guess we’ll have to wait.

            Bonjour Ellen,

My typing skills are getting a real workout because I like to use your fun typing games. Have you tried doing the typing games? I think you would like them and if you haven’t maybe you should try. What are we typing will it be hard?

I was very happy today because you gave me a pen trial I always tell my mum that I am getting closer and closer. I think your handwriting lessons have helped me the most. Is any one getting close to a pen trial? I love the pen I got and when I told my family she was very happy for me.

Today was happy and sad because of remembrance day. Did anyone in your family fight in any wars? My great grandpa fort in world war 2. I like the way we made poppies. I didn’t find it hard but I know that some people did.

            Wie Gehts Kate,
It was a day of mixed emotions indeed. I agree it is a sad occasion when we realise that wars are such dreadful things and that so many of our brave soldiers and nurses were hurt or lost their lives so that we can have the lives we live today. But then it was a great day for you to finally achieve your goal. Well how can I not give you a pen trial after such fabulous work like that. The challenge will be to always write like that, not so easy, but I have faith in you.

No, I haven’t had a go at the typing games yet. I really should as I seem to be doing a lot of typing lately. Do you believe your writing skills are also getting better because you have to edit as you go? I suppose once we have completed our drafts you will be able to really put your skills to the test. Perhaps we should start next week.

    To Ellen,
I can’t wait until school holidays because i can learn many more things from my dad and that includes math, science, english and more.I will miss getting a chance to do some schoolwork so that is a bit sad for me cause i won’t to get a higher grade at school & that is including typing, spelling, maths, & reading. Ellen do you think i can get a higher grade at home?, cause i am not sure if i can make it.
What is your favourite TV show?, cause mine is the wacky world beaters.
whats your favourite food?, cause my favourite food is pizza.

      Greetings Lily,
The school holidays are certainly coming up fast. Does your Dad get a long break too? It’s fun learning things and sharing knowledge with your parents is priceless. I remember my Dad teaching me lots of history and science. You can always work on your studies any time and do your best that’s’ all you ever do and your grades will be whatever effort you put in.
My favourite Tv Program at the moment is Big Bang, I love those dudes. But I don’t watch TV much. I am A huge Star Trek Fan and every now and then I rewatch all the episodes for all the spin off series. That is a holiday job, when I can’t play outside if the weather is too hot! My favourite food is Wiener Schnitzel and Red Cabbage a German traditional treat, my grand mother always made it for me when she stayed with us. Yum!
Are you going to play cricket this year? I know you like the sport. The first test began today and Australia is in a great position.
      Enjoy the evening

alright bring it on self destruct mode I’ve canceled. With a stick and leave stadium the beys will just destroy it. Maybe Angas and you could just bring yours maybe James , Charlie and David can join?bring all your beys guys we could make an arena out of metal cause most will be metal fusion so we will be able to swap but I can’t swap and keep I’m sadly not allowed to.nice thinking with a twig and leaf stadium

      Hello Narla,
on the weekend i’m going for a big bike ride into the city.
Last year I went on the same bike ride into the city and it took one hour to ride there and it took one hour to ride back.In total it actually took four hours until we got home.It took four hours because the people we went with wanted to stay at a park for a while. The people we went with were my best friend called Alannah (her nick name is Lani) ,Alannah’s Dad called Greg, and Alannah’s brother called Nicholas.
Where are you going for your bike ride?Is it far away or are you going on a small bike ride? Who are you going with and why are you going with them?
Do you ride past a park called Bnython park?I was wondering because when i ride into the city i ride past that park.
      Kind regards Lili

It’s my sister’s birthday tomorrow. My sister’s birthday is on the 6th of November. I’m so excited! For her birthday I am going to give Lara a book called Girls online. Girls online tells you what to do when you are stuck trying to buy something online. I think that the book is very useful don’t you think Ellen.

    Hello Dylan,
I was wondering if you and Kayla could come over to our house one day so we can swim in our pool when it is done. The christmas hollidays would be a good time. If you have spare time we could come over to your house and bring our pool noodles and have a pool noodle fight. If you don’t have a pool noodle you could borrow my sister’s pool noodle. Tell your mum about this and I bet me and you will be in one of our pools and chilling or having a pool noodle fight. So bring some extra swimmers and some dry clothes so we can play after being in the pool.

Yes I know, your mum as been looking she wrote a great comment for us. I was a little embarrassed by that throw it ended a great warm up activity. The other teachers paid me out a lot. I’ve never been a good ball sport player! But we played it again for boxing in the gym and I did a better job.
Do you go to school every night for some exercise?

            G’day Tate,
Now I know why I see you a lot after school. We have boot camp Tuesday, Friday and Saturday although on Saturday’s now we go to Semaphore Beach Then we have boxing Wednesday nights. I think it was okay when we were outside to look at us working, but when we are in the gym it isn’t polite to peer through the doors, the other teachers don’t appreciate it much. Why was it so exciting to have your Grandpa over? What do you get up to?
            Sincerely Ellen

I love my new shoes they are so bright and colourful that I stand out really well! My new shoes have a lot of benefits to me because there more comfortable and fit my foot better. The only thing is that when your playing hide and seek they can find you strait away. Do you like your shoes? do you think that you need new shoes? Were your shoes better when they were new? I find my new shoes great!

    Hi
Today I got orthotics and new shoes. The shoes that I used to wear to school are size three but I need a size four. We went to harbortown to get new shoes and we then went to three shops before I found ones I liked, but we got there in the end. Then by the time we got home it was five past five and mum still had to cook diner before I had swimming. So in the end I just stayed home and didn’t go to swimming, but instead I did a lot of mathletics and reading. I also finished my maths. Has anyone else finished? I managed to find ever object but a square based pyramid. Did anyone find all the objects? well if you did you did really well in finding lots of objects!I had a busy day today!

      Hello Lili,
Thanks for your concern about my poor vocal chords. I know from bitter experience that if I use them when they are sore like today, I can do too much damage. Sadly I did indeed need to stay away last year for almost a term. Although I have to miss Games Day I think it’s better than missing the rest of the year don’t you. I’ll be very sad about that too. You guys have agreat day and do your best for Grange (and yellow!)
      A croaky goodbye from Ellen.
